Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 06 April 2024

While with a casual glance Tiny Rebel Newport might look like it is still open. On closer inspection, it is certainly and sadly closed. This is my first visit to Newport since it closed. Saturday afternoons in Newport will now need replanning.  Storm Kathleen is around today and it is already much milder. There is a Curry and Mixed Grill sale this morning in The John Wallace Linton.

Should I?

While I decide

The review

Mosaic Pale Ale - Adnams - 4.1% ABV. B+ and a bit and a bit, lovely malt and fruit and tropical base. Pine, mango and dry body. Pleasing fruity, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.4/5. The 50 bus is now the 50A and @Tinyrebelnpt still has the sign above the door but is very closed. Mild but grey.

The review

I think this has improved. Now more balanced and bitter. B+ and a touch #ale #beer #bier

Moving on to The Pen and Wig (Newport) and the wind is getting up.

The Wye Valley Brewery is knocking out some much better beer.

The review

Rodeo - Wye Valley Brewery - 4.6% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty with a sweet fruity base. Lingering fruity bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Moved on the Newport Pen and Wig. The wind is certainly up and I think #StormKathleen has arrived. Sunny out.

Finest chips and then onto The Lamb

When you see someone you know and nod.

The review

Coco Loco - Zulu Alpha - 4.6% ABV. B+ and a bit, a pale porter. Coconut, bitter, hoppy, with a dry, bitter, fruity finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Caldicot’s finest on Keg. Very different and also very pleasant. Rather more wind now #StormKathleen

And then you think, maybe I should plant some potatoes and mow the lawn. Then go home.
