Beers Of The Beano - Sunday 31 March 2024

British Summer and it is actually dry. Post Premier Inn Full English and it’s over to The Lord High Constable of England.

All you can drink Coffee to start and I feel it will be mostly bottles here.

The review

Old Speckled Hen - Morland - 4.5% ABV. B+ and a bit, still passable. Malty and rich with a solid bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Every so often, you need to go back to something you’ve liked in the past and see if it has changed. It’s still OK.

The review

Hedge Hop - Flacks - 4.9% ABV. B+, big and malty with a slightly spicy body. Pleasant bitter finish. Not quite my bag #ale #beer #bier

3/5. Cask has just come on. Had it before and it’s slightly better fresher, as you would expect. Nice Pump Clip though.

12:00 comes and a 5 minute walk up the dock to The Hop Kettle.

It looked like it wasn’t open and the sign on the door said closed and then all of a sudden it was open and I was up on the first floor selecting Cask Ales from left to right.

The review

Western Star - Hop Kettle - 4.5% ABV. B++, well balanced. Big malty, spicy base. Rye with a lingering gentle bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. First time at The Hop Kettle, Gloucester. Brewing on site, great view of the Docks but no customer WiFi. Great beers so far.

The review

3.3/5. Sitting here reviewing and the bitterness is going on and on. The Tippler, the best CAMRA magazine you can get.

The review

Dog Star - Hop Kettle - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit and a bit. Juicy, murky with a lovely oat mouthfeel. Gentle fruity, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.4/5. Love a bit of murk, especially when it has Oats in it. Planning new Beanos, thinking somewhere new?

The review

Element - Hop Kettle - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, extremely well balanced malty, hoppy, fruity and bitter ale #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Loyalty card and a discussion with the Barman, one of the original ales from 12 years ago. Great Beer times #mb05

The review

Long Nights - Hop Kettle - 4.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, complex, malty, roasty, coffee, chocolate with a hint of fruit with a pleasing bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. As Stouts go this is essentially different and very pleasing. I have a feeling I will be back here before long. Quality Beanoing #mb05

And then, all of a sudden, I wandered off.
