Beers Of The Beano - Wednesday 13 March 2024

I’m making the most of Tiny Rebel Newport while I still can. April 2024 Saturday’s are going to be completely different, with Tiny Rebel closed.  The bus was late arriving in Newport as it got caught in a huge traffic jam.  Starting in The John Wallace Linton, where the Spring Beer Festival is still on. At least, until Sunday it is.

The good news was that the JWL had five festival ales on and they were all new to me. Working left to right as the professional thing to do.

The review

Spring Frenzy - Daleside - 3.4% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, hoppy with a touch of sharp and fruity grapefruit. Refreshing #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. In the John Wallace Linton #Newport where some of the Punters are obviously off to The Cheltenham Festival.

The review

Brewer’s Strength Original - Butcombe - 4.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, fruity, a hint of sweetness with a fruity bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Talking Spoons and Beer Festivals with the Lady Bar Manager. Interesting conversation. 5 and maybe 6 Fest Ales on #Newport

The review

Grizzly Bear - Shepherd Neame - 6.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, rich, fruity, malty and a little strong. A solid brew for colder nights #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Not a bad brew from the Kent Brewery. 6%!kicks it out of touch for a breakfast or lunchtime Pint. However worth it.

The review

Birrificio Gregorio Falstaff - Birrificio Gregorio - 4.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, hoppy with hints of spice and honey. Solid #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Brewed at Hook Norton, Oxfordshire. It’s slightly different and I like it. Mr Drakeford is on the TV explaining things.

The review

Bingo Lady - The Lost Abbey - 5.0% ABV. B+ and a bit. Malty, fruity, hoppy with a hint of spice. Nicely balanced brew #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. From San Diego but brewed in the UK by Adnams. Slightly different and rather good. Quality Spoons Beer Fest.

Moving on, once I’d been to the Harbour Fish Bar for chips, to the newly reopened Lamb. It had promised local and craft ales. So, I wanted to see if it lived up to that promise?

OK, TLDR, it was good, very good on the Ale front and yes, I straightened the nearly horizontal Welsh flag. So on to the Beers, one Cask and two Kegs.

The review

Cabin in the Woods - Hive Mind - 5.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, complex and strong. Malty, spicy, rich and full bodied. Sitting in the window #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Back in the reopened Lamb #Newport Now run by a lovely Ukrainian Lady who is still waiting for BT to install her WiFi 🛜

The review

Denim Demon - Misfit Brew Co - 4.5% ABV. B+ and a bit, kveik yeast. Light, refreshing with a fruity, hoppy body. V Tidy #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. So good to be back in the Lamb watching the world go by. Local Ales and the rain has stopped too #Newport 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The review

Hefe Weissbier - Misfit Brew Co - 5.5% ABV. B+ and a bit. Very wheaty but very tasty. Big complex taste and well worth seeking out #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Very German, very good. Lovely aroma. Don’t stop believing in the background. Overcast but very. Maybe Spring?

Time going on and I haven’t been to Tiny Rebel yet. Just for the record, I had great service there, above and beyond and the WiFi is fixed too.

The review

Loca - Tiny Rebel - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, hazy, fruity, hoppy, sharp with a hint of spice. Fruity, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Making the most of Tiny Rebel Newport while I still can. Juicy and fruity and on Cask @tinyrebelnpt #Newport

Good times while I still can and using loyalty points.
