Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 07 September 2024
How far to travel? How early to start and is the Project coming along? Overnight flooding into a very Autumnal Saturday Beano. Caerphilly and starting in the Malcolm Uphill.
There is a always to queue outside the Malcolm Uphill. Mostly hardened drinkers and people getting a breakfast before travelling. As the bar now opens at 09:00, hardened drinks now drink Coffee.
I managed not to lose my CAMRA 50p off voucher, this time. Lots of Lattes to start the day. The WiFi is really slow.
Properly start my Saturday Benoing
The review
Time Bandit - Brightside Brewing - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, earthy, hoppy with an earthy, fruity bitter finish. Good start #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. Autumnal Saturday morning in The Malcolm Uphill, Caerphilly. Drizzly but mild.
The review
Citra - Oakham Ales - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, one of my favourite cask ales but I’ve had it better. Still a solid Pint though #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. The drizzle has stopped and the mist is lifting. No sign of an Indian Summer, though. Malcolm Uphill, Caerphilly 🏴
The intermittent joy of drinking Real Ales
The review
Stag - Exmoor Ales - 4.8% ABV. B+, this has the problem with Cask Ales. It’s just about to go over. However, still drinkable #ale #beer #bier
3/5. Listening to TWiT 995. Beer and Tech Podcasts, the only and best ways to spend your Saturdays #Beanoing
Running late, so it’s chips time
It must be me but it was a We’re waiting for the chips, they have just gone in”. Of course I waited. And then onto the, well, what it wit be called.
Rebranded. Also, they have new WiFi with a very strong password.
A baby party upstairs so I was sitting downstairs by the bar.
All Dark Element apart from The Project, which is probably Dark Element?
After I had got the new WiFi password to work. Never write them down, print them out. Start with the good stuff.
The review
Blender - Dark Element - 6.0% ABV. B++, fruity, tart, gently sour with a gentle bitter finish. A harvest sour. Solid #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. Brew Monster is now badged as The Project / Dark Element. New SSID and a children’s party upstairs. Still next to a power socket.
Fridge next
The branding now says it’s a bottle shop, cans as well I guess and quality cans.
The review
Glass Sky - Left Handed Giant - 6.5% ABV. B++, Oaty mouthfeel, complex and tingly body with a fruity, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. Drinking Bristol. Planning Oktoberfest drinking in the next four weeks 🇩🇪 Looking forward to those malty brews.
Bottles on the glass alert. The glass was rinsed before issue.
The review
Volley - Cloudwater - 6.0% ABV. B++, hazy, juicy, tropical, fruity and piney. Piney, bitter finish. Sharp and refreshing #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. Always had a soft spot for Cloudwater and now you can get it in Caerphilly. Times are getting much better.
The review
Strawberry Shortcake - Yonder - 3.0% ABV. B++ and a bit, a low alcohol that massively punches above its weight. Superb sour brew #ale #beer #bier
3.6/5. Great fridges and great plans for the future. The Project #Caerphilly 🦆🏴
And I only had to wait two minutes for my bus to arrive. Great day apart from the weather.
