Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 16 March 2024
Wales being at home and the end of The Spoons Spring Beer Festival. A slightly frosty start and the The John Wallace Linton (Newport) soon filled up with red shirted Wales fans
Still, a new Fesatival Ale.
The review
Skip Intro - Exmoor - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit. Malty then sharp citrus and pine. Bittersweet fruity finish #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. Penultimate day of the Spoons Spring Beer Festival. Solid if not exceptional line up this. John Wallace Linton #Newport
And with St Patrick’s day just around the corner.
The review
Andersons - Lough Gill - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, Irish Red Ale brewed for Spoons for St Patrick’s Day. Malty and satisfying #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. If you like malty red ales, this is certainly the one for you and at £1.99 a pint and 4.0% it’s fill your boots time.
Moving on to the Pen and Wig which was pleasingly more quiet at about 10:15.
The review
Llandogo Trow Ale - Kingstone - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, hugely malty with a gentle fruity bitter finish. Satisfying #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. Brewed in Tintern 🏴 and it’s a little corker. Moved on to the Pen and Wig where it is currently much calmer.
The review
Sweet malt, gentle fruity bitterness. B+ and a bit #ale #beer #bier A shorter review as I was already getting sleepy. A beer for the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival no doubt.
Then off to the Harbour Fish Bar for a tray of chips. Hints of damp in the air.
Then back to the The Lamb and the soon wall to wall Rugby Fans.
Note the backwards N, I’ll have to check.
The review
A malty brew from across the bridge B+ and a bit 🇺🇦 at The Lamb #Newport. Well kept and presented. I forgot to check if the WiFi was working.

Getting a hint of Belgian Yeast here, you know Bubblegum. Otherwise malty and sharp fruit. Lingering bitter finish. B+ and a bit #ale #beer #bier And that was mostly me for the day. Wales got the wooden spoon.
