Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 23 March 2024
March is an odd month, take for instance this week. It’s light at about 06:00 and it has been really mild. However, today it went do to 3c overnight. Spring but not Spring. So, the plan for today is to make my last visit to Tiny Rebel Newport. It does close until next weekend but I will be away on #mb05
A cutting wind and strangely, some blown snow that didn’t stick in Newport. It was start the day in The John Wallace Linton (again). Luckily they had some Festival Ales still on. Starting the day with a 5.6% German Chocolate Ale brewed in Wolverhampton by Banks.

Leikeim Chocolate Ale - Brauhaus Leikeim - 5.6% ABV. B++, malty, rich and roasty, burnt notes with a chocolatey bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. Really rather good. This 🇩🇪 ale is brewed by Banks In Wolverhampton. A 5.6% before 09:00, only time will tell 😴
The review
Different to the fresh on cask, now sweeter and more fruitier. No doubt a more mature cask. Still good though B+ and a bit #ale #beer #bier
Moving on to The Pen and Wig. It was no raining, then it drizzled and then the sun came out. All the time the wind was cutting. I sat in the window as the WiFi was still iffy.
The thing with Real Ales is that they can sometimes be rather lively. So my first choice became my second choice as it had to sit and calm down.

2 x QPA, a very welcome gift. That’s why you can’t beat The Pen and Wig. After those, down the hill and around the corner to The Lamb.
They now have customer WiFi and it the fastest in Newport. No Captive Portal either, just a password (beer related). Onto to Keg.
