Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 17 August 2024

I think we are already at a seasonal watershed. The Sunflowers at Bedwas Co-op are starting to turn and the early morning was rather fresh. An enhanced deal at Costa Coffee, which involved a Cappuccino, Bacon Roll and an Orange Juice. All the essential nutrients you need.

The John Wallace Linton, the actual waiting room for Newport Railway Station. Guest Ales at £1.69 a Pint.

The pre 08:00 Punters.

The review

Admiral IPA - Acorn Brewery - 5.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, hoppy, spicy and a little fruity. Gentle, lingering bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. £1.69 a Pint with 50p off for a CAMRA voucher. Autumnal and rather pleasant. Wetherspoons running on biscuits 🍪.

Juicy Mango - Indian Brewery - 5.5% ABV. B+ and a bit, Big Mango on the nose. A little thin but hazy but fruity and spicy. Long Mango bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Not as described but good none the less. Interestingly the Brewery is actually in Birmingham, West Midlands. Worth a punt.

The front of The Pen and Wig Newport in the late Summer Sun

You don't tend to sit outside The Pen and Wig

I’m not sure if you can say Indian Summer but I think it has already arrived. Summer but not too hot. Going for Cask.

A Pint of One Hop This Time from The Quantock Brewery in front of it's Pump Clip

Naturally Hazy

I even watch South Africa v Australia in the Rugby and I enjoyed it too.

A Pint of Scally Wag from Hop Union in front of it's Pump Clip

Not really a Summer Ale

Could this Pint be telling me something? A definite maybe.

The review

Scallywag - Hop Union - 4.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, roasty, hoppy and bitter. Seems like a whole new brew. Roasty, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

Then time for Chips

Lots of pointing in front of The Harbour Fishbar, Newport

Over the bridge post stocking up in Tesco’s to Weird Dad’s.

Weird Dad Taproom and Brewery Newport. The front windows.

Pre County Kickoff

They seem to have a thing for Ainsty Ales, not that I am complaining. Cask to start.

The review

Bantam Best - Ainsty Ales - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, hoppy with a spicy bitter finish. Solid Saturday lunchtime Pint #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. At Weird Dad in #Newport which seem to be big fans of Ainsty Ales. County are at home so it full of Amber Fans.

A poured can of Fruitarian Ideology from Wilde Child Brewing

What a corker

The review

Fruitarian Ideology - Wilde Child - 4.5% ABV. B++, Splendid Ale, fruity, sharp, tart, sour, salty and gently bitter. A Winner #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. Superior Brew from Leeds. To style but slightly different. At Weird Dad #Newport where it’s an overcast and grey afternoon.

A touch of YouTube and then let’s go Belgian.

A poured glass and bottle of Duchesse Chocolate Cherry from Brouwerij Verhaeghe

Things suddenly got Awesome

The review

Duchesse Chocolate Cherry - Brouwerij Verhaeghe - 6.8% ABV. A minus a touch. Wonderful on the nose, complex cherries with a complex chocolate bitter finish 🇧🇪 #ale #beer #bier

3.8/5. Sour and tart with a solid tart finish. Drink Belgian and you will never go back. Weird Dad #Newport 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I then wandered off to catch the 17:00 50 Bus to Caerphilly. Sleepy and Happy.
