Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 18 May 2024

Two buses to Blackwood, both on time and both rather pleasant. Add to that the joy of using a free bus pass and the day is off to a great start.  It was dry too.

Waiting for the 26 Bus to Blackwood at Caerphilly Bus Station.

Starting in The Sirhowy where the Coffee machine gives you too much milk. The Bar opened at 09:00.

Sea Fury - Sharps - 5.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty and rich with nice creamy head. Solid brew #ale #beer #bier 

3.3/5. First time in Blackwood since 2014 and boy does time pass quickly. The Sirhowy has expanded sideways since I was last here. 

Rhymney Brewery Bars often criticised as old coggers bars but I’m an old cogger and they are clean, have good WiFi and friendly, helpful staff. This one seems to have Camden Stouut on keg.

Hobby Horse - Rhymney Brewery - 3.8% ABV. B+ and a touch. I sure it will be called brown twiggy juice but I like it #ale #beer #bier 

3.1/5. An old school and traditional ale in the relatively new Rhymney Brewery Bar in Blackwood. FTTC WiFi. 

Camden Stout on keg and a quality branded glass.

Camden Stout - Camden Brewery - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit. On Keg, smooth, malty, chocolatey, burnt notes and a long bitter finish #ale #beer #bier 

3.3/5. No longer craft but this is very drinkable and the glass with the eyes is first class. May just stay here. 

Then onto the Bottled beer, spotted while peeking over the bar.

Rhymney Dark - Rhymney Brewery - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a touch, malty, fruity, chocolatey with a gentle, lingering bitter finish #ale #beer #bier 

3.1/5. Traditional but really rather good. Now it’s a question of whether I will catch the next bus? Hard life Beanoing. 

Finishing it up, it was time to make a move as I was already felling sleepy. A mix between getting up at 03:00 and getting old. It looked like rain but there wasn’t a drop.

It was a good time and I’m going to do it again, soon.
