Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 19 October 2024

It was a Supertramp Saturday. I was up before the dawn. I was the only one on the bus to Newport and it was wonderful. Mac OS Ken and The Techmeme Ride Home.

A dark early morning at the bus stop in Bedwas. The moon and the leaves on the trees

06:10

There is something about an early morning bus to Newport

My plan for the day outside Newport International Railway Station

The Costa at Newport Station had no Bacon Rolls and I still couldn’t log onto the WiFi but it was still great.

Tom Merritt from The Daily Tech News Show was in experimental mode. It worked too. I actually helped someone with bus stops. Tip of the day, if you need help, hold your phone out, as it suggests you are not a beggar. The Sun was an hour late.

Post 08:00 rush

Wait for the queue at the bar to go down and then resume the Spoons Autumn Beer Festival.

A pulled pint of Disintegration from The Salopian Brewery in front of it's Hand Pump and Clip

Disintegration - Salopian Brewery - 5.1% ABV. B++, strong, fruity, piney with a gentle fruity, bitter finish. Solid Shrewsbury brew #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. The Fest ales are £1.49, starting early and in no hurry. Not raining, still awaiting the forecast sun 🌞 #Beanoing

A pulled pint of Session IPS from Salem Brew Co in front of it's Hand Pump and Clip

A just after 09:00 Session is good

The review

Session IPA - Salem - 4.1% ABV. B+ and a bit. Malty, fruity, piney with a hint of sourness. Long piney, fruity, bitter finish. Decent #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. There are some really good brews in this Beer Fest. Hats off to Sir Timbo. Could do with a January Fest too?

Off to Weird Dad’s via Tesco Express to get my tea.

Weird Dad's Brewery and Taproom under a warm Autumn sky

Shortly after opening

Mr Weird Dad has brewed an Oktoberfest Bier. Time to compare and contrast.

A pulled pint of Weird Dad's Oktoberfest Fest Bier in front of it's Pump Clip

Not Cask as I had once thought

The review

Oktoberfest - Weird Dad - 6.3% ABV. B+ and a bit, hazy, malty, very fruity with a long earthy, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. More Newport than Munich. Keg not Cask but worth a Punt. Cardiff City 2-0 up at the moment and the sun is shining.

The y actually won 5-0. Must be due to The Oktoberfest Bier?

Cans time.

A poured can of Red Jelly and Ice Cream from Yonder

Variety
