Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 21 September 2024
The first day of Oktoberfest.
September when what little we had of the Indian Summer had ended. It’s now Oktoberfest season. Not in Munich or Gloucester but various places in South Wales. Starting with, Oktoberfest Tiny Rebel in Rogerstone.
The first bus out of Bedwas to Newport with the standard Costa Coffee meal deal to start.
Meal Deal and Good Day Internet
Small but it has two bar stable where you can sit down. Power sockets and USB charging too. Saturday quiz on Good Day Internet.
Then onto The John Wallace Linton with it’s pre opening queue. They are still doing their £1.69 Guest Cask Ale deal.
Taste and Vale
The review
Farmers Brown Cow - Bradfield Brewery - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty base with a slightly roasty follow on. The finish is dry, citrus and coffee
3.3/5. Oktoberfest 2024 weekend and I’m off to the Tiny Rebel Brewery Bar. Of course it raining. Quality start to the Beano.
Then it was cans time. £3.45 for a 330ml can?
Good but too expensive
The review
Pale Ale - Camden Brewery - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit and a touch. Very solid brew. Hoppy, grapefruit, citrus and then a big citrus, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.4/5. Now in the Fridge in The John Wallace Linton #Newport. £3.45 a 330 can which is the same price as the 440 craft cans.
Didn’t really have enough time for the Oakham, however, quality Beanoing sometimes means optimising time management.
Time management in operation
The review
Citra T90 - Oakham Ales - 4.6% ABV. B++ and I’m in a rush. Hoppy plus, should have gone for the two can deal.
So I left to catch the 10:25 151 to Blackwood and I got on at 10:15 and it left. Previous one late or mine early. Apple Maps was shot on with the bus stops. Who’s names, faded as they were passed. Rained all the way. Walking directions not as good as Google’s but solid.
Worth a revisit
My first visit to The Tiny Rebel Brrewery Bar ever. First visit to Tiny Rebel since the Newport Bar closed in March 2024.
All you need for Beanoing
Strangely there was now customer WiFi in the Bar but I was getting a GigaByte download on ThreeUK 5G. Luckily I have a shedload of data.

I arrive early (11:00 opening) but they let me in anyway but with no ordering of Fine Ales. A postive start.
All welcome.
Very postive attitude towards our doggie friends.
Bought a T-shirt too.
I was here for Oktoberfest 2024. So at 11:00, I was at the bar. A Tiny Rebel Festbier too.
Starting with the Zeitgeist
Halves to start as thery had Steins.
Not really a FestBier
The review
Zeitgeist - Tiny Rebel - 5.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, big and malty, slightly fruity with a dry, fruity bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. More Tiny Rebel than Märzen but close enough. Getting Gigabyte download on @threeuk 5G here.
Stein time!
All around 6% ABV
A Pint in a 2 Pint Stein
Starting with a pint
The review
Oktoberfest Bier - Hacker Pschorr - 6.0% ABV. B++, lovely bread and malt, hints of fruit and spice with a dry, fruity, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. That’s better. Real Oktoberfest and in a Stein too. Only a Pint and a £5.00 deposit. Good #Oktoberfest2024 times.
Paulaner next
Confusion about the order amount.
Asked for a Pint, got two Pints, charged for one Pint. Great customer care. Great Bier too.
The review
Oktoberfest Bier - Paulaner - 6.0% ABV. B++, malty, bready base with a traditional gentle bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. When you ask for a pint in a two Pint Stein (deposit paid) and you get a Pint and three quarter but get charged for a Pint 🏴🇩🇪🍻
Feeling hungry now. Westham v Chelsea on the large screen.
Solid food.
I couldn’t finish it but I finished the chips.
Quality Art
As it goes on to the 06 Oktober, I’ll be back to finish the Ales. Slept well.
