Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 30 November 2024

Post Storm Bert and the weather is rather mild. I ready to Beano again after update most of my kit for Apple Intelligence. Caerphilly for my nearly December Festive Ales. Great to be back in the saddle. Double entendres all the way, no doubt.

Drizzly and dark with a surprise visit by Caerphilly’s Winter Fayre. Not that many Festive Ales on at the Malcolm Uphill. Here’s the prelude.

Festive traffic jam

My booth was available and it was all the Lattes I could drink until the bar opened.

Three coal mine themed booths in the Malcolm Uphill Caerphilly. Tinselled up tp.

Ready to go.

One one Festive Ale on and it had improved over last year.

More of a Summer Pint

The review

Evil Elf - Rudgate - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, fruity, tropical and citrusy. Much better than this time last year. Summer not Christmas #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. From the Spoons selection of Christmas Ales. Watching the pre Festive drizzle in The Malcolm Uphill #Caerphilly

Moving on to semi local and semi Christmasy.

A poured pint of Gift Horse from the Rhymney Brewery in front of it's hand pump and pump clip

Field expedient Pump Clip

The Review

Gift Horse - Rhymney Brewery - 4.5% ABV. B+ and a touch, malty with a citrus bitter finish. Trad Valleys brew #ale #beer #bier

3.1/5. World shortage of quality pump clips in Caerphilly. Times are hard this Festive Season. Drinking LocAle.

Moving on via The New Caerphilly Fish Bar

A tray of chips with a wooden fork

Good but not great.

Drizzly

When other people pay by card, I wish they would check that they have money in their account. It does help. Starting with a two thirds.

Two thirds of Glitch from Dark Elements in front of the now moved menu board

I like the new glasses

The review

Glitch - Dark Elements - 5.6% ABV. B++, malty, juicy, fruity and slightly sweet tropical. Bitter sweet finish #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. High successful at avoiding the Caerphilly Christmas 🎄 Fayre. Drinking two thirds as I want to be a Craft Rebel.

Moving on to an 8.0%

A poured can of Proper DIPA: Stockport Edition from Cloudwater

Robinsons Yeast

The review

Proper DIPA: Stockport Edition - Cloudwater - 8.0% ABV. B++, malty, fruity, hoppy with a hint of sweetness. Dry bittersweet finish #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. Cloudwater with Robinson’s Yeast. I’m thinking this will go down well with Beer Twitter because they are all about the Fine Ales.

Heading North to Glasgow

A poured can of Slow Rotor from Overtone

Glasgow Brew

The review

Slow Rotor - Overtone - 5.0% ABV. B++, malty, hoppy, fruity and peppery. Dry, bitter and peppery finish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. Some quality Scottish Pale Ale all the way down in the Lower Rhymney Valley where Dunkelflaute is the order of the day, again.

And to finish off

A poured can of Lemon Drizzle from Yonder

The best brew of the day

The review

Lemon Drizzle - Yonder - 5.0% ABV. B++ and a touch, such a lot going on here. Smells like cake, lemon, tart and sour with a vanilla bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.6/5. Cake for Christmas 🎄 This is a winner. Somerset into Caerphilly with good WiFi and and Apple Intelligence ready device.

And in the dark

Ready for Chrimbo
