Beers Of The Beano - Wednesday 31 July 2024

Three days over 25c or 77f is a heatwave, or so Derek The Weather says and this is the third and hottest day. I’m up on flexi and I have a new NAS arriving. It’s a downgrade but because of Infuse I no longer need Plex.

The Sunflowers at The Co-op in Bedwas are really looking good. This was at 06:25 and it was already warm. The NFC reader on the bus had failed but I was waved on as I have an Oldies Bus Pass.

Aircon, Bacon Roll and a Latte, entered into a competition via the app and free WiFi.

In the John Wallace Linton, just after 08:00 and things are looking up. Despite what it says, all Cask Ales are £1.69. Something to do with the Summer. I was told. Need to discuss this with The Tumble. However, starting with a Porter.

The review

Old Growler - Nethergate - 5.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, roasty, fruity, hoppy, a little thin but works even in this hot weather #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Emergency Beano in Newport and it’s £1.69 a Pint and they have Citra on Cask too. Quiet and cool in The John Wallace Linton.

No review but it was superb and I think it was fresh on. Nearly the perfect Summer Ale. They have T90 in the fridge, too.

Can you guess where I am? Sitting closer to the day today top see if I could get connected to the WiFi

Bristol is certainly a great brewing city and The Bristol Beer Factory are an unusual but welcome sight in Newport.

The review

Dune Twist - Bristol Beer Factory - 5.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, US NZ hoppy hybrid. Hoppy, fruity, slightly sweet. Lingering fruity sweet finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Bristol really is the home to great breweries and it’s wonderful to see one that’s made it to Newport. Pen & Wig, Cask Central.

The Pen & Wig empties. I must state they are not all mine. Off to The Lamb via The Harbour Fish Bar. Rather hot out.

I like the Lamb, love their WiFi but the Craft offering isn’t there yet. However the cask was well kept and it was nice and cool inside.

Nice Proper Job with a quality branded glass.

The review

Proper Job - St Austell Brewery - 4.5% ABV. B+ and a bit, solid malt base then wall to wall hops #ale #beer #bier

Then off to setup my new Synology Beestation.
