Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 22 June 2024
Post Summer Solstice on a sunny Summer Saturday, well at least to start it was back to Caerphilly. The first smock free Beano of the year and boy do I miss the pockets. 5G from ThreeUK is now showing up in The Malcolm Uphill, the local Spoons. in the centre booth and they have new overhead lights. The screens are down ready for today’s Euro 2024 games. CAMRA voucher ready to be deployed.
Starting off gently with a 3.8% ABV Gluten Free Ale. Summer Ales are definitely here.
The review
Unity - Mad Squirrel - 3.8% ABV. B+ and a bit. GF Summer ale. Malty, fruity, earthy hazy ale that’s light and refreshing #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. A rather good start to this Saturday’s Beano and 50p off with a CAMRA voucher. Can now get ThreeUK 5G in The Malcolm Uphill.
The review
Stormstay - Hanlons - 5.0% ABV. Nearly B+ and a bit. I feel the write up is much better than the beer. It’s a good brew but I feel it should be so much better #ale #beer #bier
High Hopes or High Hops, anyway a slightly battered can from Purple Moose in Porthmadog. Quality non standard Pint glass from Hobgoblin matched it very well.
The review
High Hops from Purple Moose B++ in a new style Hobgoblin Pint Glass. Great brew and a wonderful new style glass. Third finger fits nicely.
11:50 and it’s time for Chips across the road.
There is something about eating chips on the hoof. Luckily it is dry and the journey to Brew Monster is all downhill.
Could do with more on the menu and some cans in the fridge.
Starting with Nostalgia and all my drinks were halves.
The review
Nostalgia - Dark Elements - 4.5% ABV. B++, juicy, hoppy, fruity, gently bitter with a hint of pepper. Tidy brew #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. Is Dark Elements the new Brew Monster now. Confused but not worried. Wish they had more guest ales in the fridge.
The review
Lits - Flowerhorn - 5.5% ABV. B++, big on the lemoniness. Lemon, fruity, citrus with a lemon bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. From Ely, Cardiff finest. Very solid lemony, bitter ale. You would have no idea it’s 5.5% ABV. In Brew Monster, Caerphilly.
The review
Headlights - Dark Element - 4.5% ABV. B++, hazy, juicy, fruity and peppery. Peppery bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. Described as an extra pale ale but I’m going with an extra murky pale ale. I like it. Lots of dogs in Brew Monster, Caerphilly.
The review
Hysteria - Dark Element - 5.4% ABV. B++, juicy, fruity, sweet malt and hoppy. Gentle bitter finish with a hint of pepper #ale #beer #bier
3.5/5. The last of my murky Saturday. Listening to @thurrott on Windows Weekly. The joy of new software. Sunny out #Caerphilly
And then I wandered off for the bus.
