Beers Of The Beano - Tuesday 25 June 2024

Summer seems to have arrived in The Lower Rhymney Valley, so what is the first time that you do? Take the A and 120 buses and head over to Pontypridd in Rhondda Cynon Taff for Tasty Tuesday in the Tumble Inn and some Craft Ales in The Bunch of Grapes.

My bus, the 07:20 120 from Caerphilly despite the fact that it has 132 written on the side.

I started my Ponty visit in Costa Coffee, for a Cappuccino and Bacon Roll. Then onto the Tumble for the bar to open at 09:00.

Tasty Tuesday is £1.49 a Pint for the Guest Ales, so it’s fill your boots time. It’s also Steak Tuesday too.

Sunrise from The Gower Brewery was a great way to start Tasty Tuesday.

Still settling and the non Tasty Tuesday price.

The review

Sunrise - Gower Brewery - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit and a touch. Hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, a little sharp with a citrus bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.4/5. Tasty Tuesday in The Tumble Inn #Pontypridd aka £1.49 a Pint. What a great way to start my Tuesday.

A little love for Doombar and yes I know that it is looked down on but it’s rather malty and tasty. Also, as it’s a best seller, so it’s nearly always fresh on. Sessionable too. Tasty Tuesday price now corrected.

It happens with Micro Pubs but it’s really Craft Ale to blame, the spending more time closed than open.  And, from today the Bunch of Grapes is no longer open from 12:00.  I think it said that it was something to do with the kitchen.

Thankfully, despite the hot Summer Sun, the Llanover was open and it had Salopian on Cask.  Happy Tuesday Plan B.

A traditional Free House, always a good sign and the front door being open is the winner.

The review

Shropshire Gold - Salopian - 3.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, a rather superior mix of malt and refreshing hoppiness. Very sessionable too #ale #beer #bier

3.3. A chance of plan and I’m blaming Craft Ale. Hot out but the superior Salopian Ale is very cooling #Pontypridd

Now on to the Keg. Manchester Keg.

The review

Jute - Salt - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit and a touch. Hazy, juicy, grapefruit, tingly with a refreshing citrus bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.4/5. I not sure if I can taste some Coconut in here but this is really refreshing. At 4.2% ABV it’s really sessionable as well. #Pontypridd

And then I wandered off before I melted. The Euros were on at 17:00.
