Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 25 May 2024

The first Mini Beano of the #election2024 season. No worries for me as it will be wall to wall tech podcasts and a shed load of Fine Ales in Portishead.  Did I mention it’s a Bank Holiday weekend too?

Spoons are having are Cider and Perry Festival and it’s great to have it be a stand alone festival again. Some wonderful Summer refreshments here.

10 minutes early

Starting with a taster. Hats off to the Barman.

Actually from a box behind the bar.

The review

Chili Ginger - Cockeyed Cider - 4.0% ABV. B+ and a bit, taster as there is a Spoons Cider and Perry Fest on. Pleasing Ginger then a warming Chili finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Beanoing in The Posset Cup in Portishead for Bank Holiday #mb06

CAMRA vouchers work with Cider and Perry

The review

Rosie’s Pig Tropical Cloudy Cider - Weston’s - 4.0% ABV. B++, fruity base with hints of pineapple following on and lingering vanilla finish #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. What a great, sessionable summer drink. Lots of different hints of fruitiness and nicely balanced with the vanilla #mb06

It’s at this stage I found the Squarespace mobile app wouldn’t upload image. The start of a Saturday of IT problems. Luckily, Fine Ales and Ciders.

The Port Bar at Portishead. Viewed from outside.

The Port Bar - Portishead

Straight into the beer siting at the back. The SSIDs have changed but the passwords are the same. Printed on the bottom of your receipt.

A half of Sting Apricot, a slightly sour fruited ale

Sting Apricot, could do with a bit more punch

The review

Sting Apricot - Portishead Bewing Co - 3.1% ABV. B+, light, fruity, apricot and gently sour. Turning into Sessionable Saturday #ale #beer #bier

3/5. At The Port Bar, Portishead where they have new SSIDs. I think it’s Summer on the English side of The Severn.

Then onto the cans, one which I had before on draft.

Yes bubbles again

The review

Enigma - Portishead Brewing Co - 5.0% ABV. B+ wall to wall Enigma hops. Fruity, malty with a strong long bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. First time I have Portishead Brewing from a can and it is much cheaper, so that is my plan for the future #mb06

Moving on to The Siren’s Calling, this time down the left hand side of the marina and over the dock gates at the far end.

The this week's music sign outside The Siren's Calling. It's their 6th Birthday.

WiFi connectivity issues

Note the 6th Birthday. Ended up siting in the window and the sun was strong.

A pint of Galaxy from Only With Love in front of it's Pump Clip

Cask Forward

The review

Galaxy Single Hop Pale Ale - Only With Love - 3.9% ABV. B+, a little thin, fruity, juicy and refreshing. Gentle fruity, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3/5. Pleasant but could be so much more and I’m not get IP Addresses on either phone on the Siren’s WiFi. Oh No! IT failure day.

A Pint of Love Monkey from Glastonbury Ales in front of it's Pump Clip

Then had to reboot the Camcorder

The review

Love Monkey - Glastonbury Ales - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, hoppy, malty with a hint of sweet jam. Gentle earthy bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. They were trying to get the FA Cup on the TV but I think they have given up. Streaming on personal devices is the way forward.

Essential nutrients while hoping the TV will work

A Pint of Cosmic Pale Ale from Tiny Rebel in front of it's Pump Clip

Easier to get in Portishead than Newport

The review

Cosmic Pale Ale - Tiny Rebel / Greene King - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit, maybe with a hint of fruitiness as it warms up? #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. The FA Cup is now up and working on the TV. Ironic that it’s easier to get Tiny Rebel in Portishead than Newport #mb06

Saw the first half in The Siren’s Calling and most of the second half in my Premier Inn room.
